Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has hit back at the Akufo-Addo government for accusing the NDC Presidential Candidate of taking advantage of the Coronavirus situation to distribute freebies to only persons in the party’s stronghold.

The Private Legal Practitioner slammed the government for seeking to impugn the motives of the former President in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown period saying their agitation clearly buttresses the point that they are a confused bunch of people.

Speaking in an interview on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" Morning Show, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, pointed out that it does not lie in the bosom of the current administration to pontificate how the Mahama team distributes items to the vulnerable in society, more especially when government has soiled its reputation by using public purse to embark on the distribution of food and products to the less privileged on blatant partisan lines.

“Every Ghanaian can see that the governance has overwhelmed them. I am certain that confusion has set in, otherwise, how can they say that former President Mahama distributed his items on political lines to favour only NDC members during the lockdown period”, he chided.

“First of all, you withdrew $200 million from the Stabilization Fund...went in for a loan in the name of the country and not Nana Addo’s from the IMF and the World Bank....with the aim to fight the COVID-19 pandemic”.

“....later, it came up that without an NPP card, you cannot benefit from the hot meals which government expended some GHc40 million on for the over 400,000 Ghanaians. When Hon. Zanetor Rawlings brought up this issue, the whole NPP government descended her.

“As we speak now, private sector initiative is giving donations to the government, but have you heard any private sector giving donation to former President Mahama to distribute to the needy? But you (government) keeps the taxpayer's purse, yet you shamefully embark on distribution spree along partisan lines,” he fumed.

The Special Aide to the former president reiterated that Mr Mahama's donation was his widow's mite to alleviate the suffering of Ghanaians and dismissed claims that the freebies distributed was done in the strongholds of the opposition party.

“Former President Mahama in his own free will decided to add his widow’s mite in the fight against COVID-19....He distributed his foodstuffs randomly. In any case, who says NPP members are not resident in the areas Mahama made the donations. Or are we to belive that only NDC members reside in Ada?...I don’t even understand the basis for such claims," Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe stressed.
