Jomoro Cadres commend gov’t over DCE's appointment

Members of the Jomoro District United Cadres Front (UCF), have expressed their gratitude to President Mahama, for appointing their colleague, Mr George William Somiah, as DCE for the area.

The President's nominee was a member of the former National Mobilization Programme (NMP) in the Jomoro District, from 1987 to 1989.

The District UCF Chairman, Mr James Belia Benson, who made the commendation on behalf of the Cadres at Half Assini, said Mr Somiah's appointment as DCE manifested the President's recognition of the role of cadres in the NDC Party.

He said the appointment of Mr Somiah would go a long way to involve them in decision-making of the party.

Mr Benson said the entire cadres of the district saw Mr Somiahs' appointment as a welcome news, adding that it was a test case, particularly to the cadre front in the district.

He, therefore, expressed their preparedness to support the new DCE, to enable him live up to expectation, when confirmed by the Assembly on December 21.

He said the appointment of yet another cadre after the late Mr Ernest Ellea Beyelah, to the highest political office in the area had been long overdue.

He, therefore, appealed to the Assembly members to give Mr Somiah the nod when asked to confirm him.

The UCF Chairman indicated that Mr Somiah, currently the District Coordinator, of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, graduated from the Cape Coast University in 1993 with Bachelor of Science Honours in Agriculture and a Diploma in Education.

He said Mr Somiah had an enviable record from the Jomoro Rural Bank, where he worked as a Senior Project Officer from 1996 to 2000.

The Jomoro District UCF Chairman hoped that Mr Somiah would bring his rich expertise to bear on his duties to justify his appointment.

The President a fortnight ago nominated Mr Somiah as the DCE pending confirmation by the Assembly.

Mr Somiah, if confirmed, will succeed Mr Sylvester Nuomah Daddieh and will be the seventh DCE in Jomoro under the Fourth Republic.
