A large number of Journalists has challenged the National Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association to immediately fix the date for the Association’s election; but Vice President Affail Monney says the Association is yet to decide on the issue.

According to Article 15 (C.I) of the GJA 2004 Constitution, the Executives have a three-year mandate. The current leadership was elected on July 9, 2009 and was sworn into office during the 2009 GJA Awards ceremony.

The GJA leadership is made up of Mr. Ransford Tetteh, Editor of the Daily Graphic, as President; Mr. Monney, Head of News, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation as Vice; Mr. Bright Kwame Blewu, formerly of Ghana News Agency as General Secretary; Mr. Dave Agbenu, Chief Reporter at New Times Corporation, Organizing Secretary; and Mrs Linda Asante Agyei of GNA as the National Treasurer.

Mr. Monney in an interview with GNA on Wednesday explained that the National Executives were caught up by this year's Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

He said the GJA leadership will come out with full details on GJA Elections, and called on members to exercise restrain whilst the leadership deliberate on the way forward.

In 2009, the Elections Committee opened nominations for elections to fill executive positions in the Ghana Journalists’ Association on Monday, June 1, 2009.

The nominations closed on Wednesday, June 24 and election conducted on July 9.

According to Article 47 of the GJA Constitution, only members of the Association in good standing other than affiliate, student and honorary, have the right to vote.
