Aide to former president Jerry John Rawlings says former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is more than qualified to lead the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to election 2012. Even though the 62 year old woman has not stated categorically whether she will contest or not, there is a supposition that she wants to.

However, Mr Adams, who is a close confidant of the Rawlings’, says neither Nana Konadu nor her husband has disclosed such intentions to him.

This notwithstanding, Mr Adams told Emefa Apawu, host of the morning show on XFM 95.1, an Accra based private radio station that Nana Konadu had worked to better the lot of the underprivileged in the country, adding that many presidents across Africa and other parts of the world cannot match her vast array of experience. Mr Adams emphasized, “I have seen many presidents in Africa and other parts of the world who do not have even a quarter of the experience she has gathered and the kind of work that she has done.”

As year 2012 draws close with each passing day, many names have come up for possible contest with current president, John Mills. Mrs Rawlings joined the fray at the recent June 4 celebration in Tamale, where a youth group from the Ashanti region displayed a banner with the inscription, “Movement for Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings 2012 President.” Although some political analysts believe the banner is a confirmation of her to quest to lead the party founded by her husband, Nana Konadu has remained mum on the issue making room for more speculations.

Mr Adams however, says Nana Konadu has very good qualities to be a leader, adding that “if she is our flagbearer, there is no reason why we cannot win the elections in 2012.
