Kojo Bonsu boy in trouble

Sammy Gyamfi, spokesperson of Kojo Bonsu, who resigned as Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Tuesday, is in deep waters as some powerful assemblymen in Kumasi, have accused him of financial malfeasance.

Led by Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, the Breman Abusuakuruwa Electoral Area Assemblyman, the assemblymen alleged that Sammy Gyamfi and his boss, Kojo Bonsu, had amassed wealth at the expense of the KMA, whilst they were in office for close to four years.

He has therefore appealed to the authorities concerned to make sure that Kojo Bonsu and his lackey, Sammy Gyamfi, who they claimed to be fabulously rich, are probed to ascertain their source of money.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday, barely 24 hours after Kojo Bonsu exited office, he claimed that Kojo Bonsu and Sammy Gyamfi benefited financially from KMA projects, which figures the two men intentionally bloated.

He alleged that Sammy Gyamfi, whilst working as Kojo Bonsu’s spokesperson, “purchased two costly luxurious cars recently for his comfort and also built a mansion”, adding that the flashy lifestyle that Kojo Bonsu’s spokesperson lived in Kumasi had raised eyebrows.

Mr Boakye added that Sammy Gyamfi also “acquired and furnished a spacious hall facility to the tune of over GHC200,000 at the Jubilee Hall, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where he organizes dancing shows and competitions for students and the likes within this short period he associated himself with Kojo Bonsu”.

He also accused Kojo Bonsu of milking the funds of KMA, saying that Kojo Bonsu had failed woefully to account for the proceeds that were realized from the forceful seizure of the Kejetia Lorry Terminal, about three years ago from Messrs Freko FD Limited.

According to him, “Kojo Bonsu single-handedly appointed a consultant for a whopping $10.5 million to undertake services midway of the Kejetia Lorry Terminal redevelopment project.

“And not that alone, he has unilaterally paid about 80 percent out of the consultancy fee to a consultancy firm to undertake the beautification of the Cenotaph Clock, sited close to the General Post Office building at Adum at a projected cost of GH¢8,000,000, coupled with the rehabilitation of the Prempeh Assembly Hall which also attracted GHC2,400,000”.

The Assemblyman also expressed doubt about the whopping $4.4 million that Kojo Bonsu claimed the Rattray Park cost, adding that the resigned Kumasi Mayor is yet to render accounts of the monies realized from proceeds of the project and where the monies had been deposited; stressing that Kojo Bonsu and Sammy Gyamfi should be probed.
