Former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief executives (MMDCEs), under the erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, have launched an audacious campaign, aimed at restoring peace and unity within trouble-ridden constituencies, and ensure a smooth electioneering campaign in the Ashanti Region.

The MMDCEs, who served under the NPP eight year regime of sound political and economic administration, have vowed not to relent in their efforts at ensuring lasting unity in the party’s stronghold, particularly in constituencies that still experience challenges resulting from misunderstandings between leading members during and after the parliamentary primaries.

The former chief executives have additionally pledged to take on the ruling party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in what they described as their ‘voodoo’ Green Book, supposedly detailing the so-called achievements of His Excellency President Mahama.

Speaking in an interview with The Chronicle in Kumasi, the former MCE for Obuasi, Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, who also chairs the Committee, explained that what the former MMDCEs are doing is to complement the efforts being made by the Regional and National Executives of the party to ensure that the party has a formidable united front to wrestle power from the Mahama-led incompetent administration.

He pointed out that once those who became successful reach out to those who unfortunately missed their chances, it will go a long way to ensure unity aligned at their individual followers, and eventually inure to the general interest of the party.

According to them, it is very difficult to win elections when a party is disintegrated, stressing that there is the need to bring everybody on board to make the task ahead easier to accomplish.

Mr. Boampong stated emphatically that the efforts of the group have started yielding positive results, and cited the positive relationship that currently exists between the incumbent MP for Asokwa, Mad. Patricia Appiagyei, and her predecessor, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, as one of the fruitful interventions by the group.

“We all witnessed how both Mama Pat and Kofi Jumah came together during the launching of the MP’s electioneering campaign at Asokwa a couple of weeks ago.

The former MCE disclosed that various committees formed were in the process of identifying constituencies with such problems for immediate mediation, whilst those on the list were also receiving prominent attention.

He, therefore, expressed optimism that all challenges would be addressed before the elections, and pleaded with party members, especially those in the Ashanti Region, to leave any unpleasant experiences behind, and contribute wholeheartedly towards the party’s victory.

On moves to tackle the ruling party’s propaganda, Mr. Boampong said the group had discovered several lies in the ruling party’s Green Book, and would deal with them appropriately.

According to him, there are several projects which were undertaken or initiated by former President Kufuor, but which have been captured in the NDC Green Book as achievements of President Mahama.

“We have resolved to tackle the dishonesty of the NDC, by exposing Ghanaians to the truth and accurate information, to enable them make [an] informed choice; Ghanaians have suffered enough social and economic hardships, and we must not allow the NDC to worsen their plight,” he stressed.
