Mr Kwasi Poku Bosompem
Mr Kwasi Poku Bosompem, former Presiding Member, Tema West Municipal Assembly, has been elected Assembly Member for the Sakumono Electoral Area.
Mr Kwasi Poku was previously an Assembly Member for the Halcrow Electoral Area in Tema Community, Two, but unexpectedly decided to join the race in Sakumono in the latter part of the campaign.
He faced fierce competition from three-time defeated candidate, Frederick Nana Ofori Amoah who prior to the election was rather upbeat of an electoral victory in the middle class Voter settlement.
The election which was generally peaceful in all designated polling stations with no technical hitches, albeit it witnessed an initial low turnout in most centers.
Mr Kwasi Poku Bosompem garnered 567 votes out the 1919 votes cast in all Polling Stations across the Sakumono Electoral Area.
Nana Ofori Amoah, his closest contender pulled 481 votes whiles Gilbert Kenneth Mac-Mawuli obtained 369 votes, and Mr Okine Andrews obtaining 303 votes.
Mr Chris Nana Omari, a legal consultant who was perceived as an underdog expectedly obtained an unimpressive 199 votes out of the total votes cast.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after declaring the results, Mr Patrick Mawusi, Deputy Returning officer, Special Duties said the exercise was generally peaceful as the electorates and officials alike followed the rules of elections as prescribed.
Nana Poku Bosompem, newly elected Assembly Member for the Sakumono Electoral Area in an interview with the GNA said the results of the election had proven naysayers wrong as it was a further indication of how discerning electorates in Sakumono were.
“I envision a developed Sakumono where there is improved sanitation and security, youth empowerment, quality roads amongst others and I intend to work assiduously and put pressure to bear on authorities to bring the needed development to the community.” he said.
Meanwhile five women out of the 12 candidates who stood as Unit Committee Members, were elected.
