Leading member of NDC calls for unity in the party

Kumasi, Oct.11, GNA - Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been advised to avoid factionalism and other negative actions that had the tendency to thwart efforts at bringing the party back to power.

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, a leading member of the party and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Wenchi West, who made the call enjoined the supporters to ensure unity and peace in the party. Mr Asiedu-Nketia, popularly called "General Mosquito" was speaking at the delegates congress of the Suame constituency of the party in Kumasi on Monday.

The congress reviewed the past activities of the party in the constituency with the view to formulating new ideas and programmes ahead of the 2008 elections.

Constituency executive were also elected at the congress during which Chief Amadu Ali was elected the constituency chairman. Mr Asiedu-Nketia entreated well-meaning supporters of the party to always use laid down party procedures in settling disputes and misunderstandings when they arise. "You should not rush to the press to pursue your case or have your grievances addressed since that action contravened the party's constitution".

He called on the party faithful to step up their activities at the grassroots so as to win more members to enable the party chalk a landslide victory in the 2008 elections.

Other members of the elected executive were Mr Clement Appiah, Vice-Chairman, Mr Abdul Karim, Youth Organiser, Mr Nurudeen Haruna, Secretary, Mr Ishak Alhassan, organiser and Mdadam Hawa Mantey, Women's Organiser.

The rest were Mr. Daniel Kwaa, treasurer and Madam Abena Nyarko, Assistant Women's Organiser. Chief Ali commended the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and the other members of the executive and assured the delegates of their resolve to work hard to enable the party to win the parliamentary seat in the constituency in 2008.
