Gary Nimako is Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party
Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako, has stressed the need for the Office of the Attorney General to be treated with utmost respect as investigations commence into a petition filed against former Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.
Former Attorney General Godfred Dame reportedly invited by CID
Addressing journalists on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Accra, he stated, “We are coming here with an open mind. Godfred Dame is a very law-abiding person. We are here to listen to them, and we will see how it goes. One thing we should be careful about is that we do not denigrate the office of the Attorney General. It is a very crucial office".
Jakpa clashes with Godfred Dame, demands CID investigation into alleged fabrication
Dame has arrived at the CID headquarters following a petition by the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, calling for an investigation into alleged evidence fabrication in the ongoing ambulance trial involving the current Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
He was accompanied by about seventy lawyers and leading members of the New Patriotic Party, including his former deputy, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, and former parliamentary candidate, Kojo Frempong.
In the petition dated July 23, 2025, Jakpa alleged that the former Attorney General had attempted to influence his testimony in court by advising him to respond to questions in a manner that would incriminate Dr Forson.
“He suggested that during cross-examination I testify not based on matters personally perceived and understood by me, but based on his suggestions,” the petition stated.
Jakpa further claimed that Dame instructed him to obtain a false medical excuse duty to delay his court appearance until the Attorney General returned from an overseas trip, a request he said he “declined” as “criminal, dishonest and unethical.”
The petition describes the former Attorney General’s conduct as an attempt to “fabricate evidence and mislead the court,” and calls on the CID to investigate the matter thoroughly.
