Let's shut constitutional review out of partisan politics

Agona (Ash), June 8, GNA - A lawyer has appealed to the nation to ensure that the constitutional review exercise was kept out of partisan politics. Mr Ernest Owusu Dapaah said the review provided an opportunity to strengthen the country's democracy and deepen good governance and should be devoid of partisanship.

He was speaking at a district level consultative forum held at Agona in the Afigya-Sekyere South District.

Mr Dapaah, who is a counsel for the Constitution Review Commission, called for active participation and contribution from all Ghanaians to grow the nation's democratic practice.

"It will not be in the nation's interest for the people to sit on the sidelines and refuse to take part in the debate."

Mr Dapaah, a constitutional law lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, said the dynamism of life and time made it pertinent for periodic review to fine-tune the constitution. Mr Edward Kusi Ayarkwa, the District Chief Executive, appealed to the people to let their views on changes they would want to be made to the constitution heard.
