Let’s vote with our conscience-Delegates

Some Delegates of the Tema West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have registered their displeasure at the attitude of some Members of Parliament (MPs) of the party, towards the impending parliamentary primary within the constituency.

Expressing their sentiments during an interaction with newsmen in Tema on Saturday, the delegates said 'big shots' should allow them to vote for the candidate of their choice, and not to be influenced to vote against their conscience.

The delegates said, on Friday, July 17, four MPs, namely, Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe (Okere); Mr Samuel Atta Akyea (Abuakwa); Mr Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover (Tema East), and Mr Henry Quartey (Ayawaso Central), in the company of Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, immediate past General Secretary, affectionately called Sir John, and Owusu Bempah of the National Democratic Party, met delegates in the constituency in two groups.

They said the MPs met the first group at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church at Community Two; while the meeting with the second group took place at Paloma on the Spintex Road.

The delegates said the MPs pleaded with them to vote for a particular candidate in the parliamentary primary slated for Saturday, July 25.

The delegates, therefore, described the attitude of the MPs as interference in the body politics of Tema West,’ and said the MPS should allow the delegates to decide on a candidate of their choice.

They pointed out that they would vote for a candidate with a track record, and for that matter, someone who was an achiever.

The delegates said they would go for someone who would unite the rank and file of the party in the constituency towards victory in 2016.

Three candidates, namely, Mrs Irene Naa Torshie Addo, the sitting MP, Mr Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, and Madam Adwoa Amoako, are contesting for the parliamentary slot on July 25, while a total of 810 delegates would be deciding on their fate on Saturday.
