Banso, (Ash) May 20, GNA - The Asante-Akim South District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, (NCCE) Mr Lawrence Tweneboa-Kodua, has urged Ghanaians to get actively involved in efforts at deepening the country's democracy through good governance. He said it was important for everyone to accept to effectively participate in decision making at all levels.
Mr Tweneboa-Kodua was addressing a durbar of Chiefs and People of Banso, near Obogu, as part of the 10th Annual Constitution Week Celebration. "Good Governance through citizen's participation," was the theme. It was meant to assist the people to become more conversant with the constitution so as to appreciate the need to uphold and help to defend it. The District NCCE Director noted that accountable and good governance could only be achieved if the citizenry keenly followed the activities of those put in leadership positions.
He reminded the people to be law abiding and said they should respect the rights and freedoms of each other as enshrined in the constitution. There should be tolerance among supporters of the various political parties since the constitution frowned on a One-Party State. Nana Kwaku Effah, Benkumhene of Banso, advised the people to make conscious efforts to become more familiar with the constitution and said this was in their own interest.
