Member of the transition team responsible for Defense for the government elect, Dominic Nitiwul is appealing to Ghanaians to help push Nana Addo’s government to settle on a special prosecutor for the country.
Their input he explained is for constituents to put pressure on their various Members of Parliament (MP) to vote for a bill containing the appointment of a special prosecutor when it is presented in parliament.
President elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, indicated in one of his campaign message that he will appoint a special prosecutor who will check corrupt practices in his government and also prosecute those that were left off the hook in past governments.
However, in order to make that appointment without breaching the constitution, government needs to enact a new bill for two third of parliament’s to endorse it before the prosecutor duty can be assigned.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Monday afternoon, Dominic Nitiwul was optimistic that corruption will die down drastically because whoever will hold that position will be a neutral person who will prosecute people across the political divide.
“If I commit a crime, I should be made to pay for it by the hand of the prosecutor so as to serve as a deterrent to others who are likely to meddle in corruption”, said.
He did not understand why the ordinary Ghanaian is jailed for committing crimes and the politician left off the hook because of the position he or she occupies.
“Everyone should be subjected under the rule of law through the courts and then prosecuted for the crime he or she has committed.
