Lets kick CPP leadership out - The Patriots

Dodowa, Aug. 27, GNA - Mr. Iddi Egala, a leading member of the Convention People's Party (CPP) on Saturday, called on members to kick the leadership of the Party under the chairmanship of Dr Edmund Nminyem Delle out of office.

"Lets wake-up, the nation and the rank and file of our party are crying for a CPP led government in 2009, We cannot fail the Macedonia cry of Ghanaians at this crucial moment of the country's democratic dispensation.

"But the wishes of our people would be a mirage if the current leadership continue to manage the party with obsolete ideas till congress in the later part of next year," he said. He made the call at the commissioning of the Party's Shai/Osudoku Constituency office at Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region. Mr. Egala, who is also a leading member of the Patriots Movement and a Chartered Accountant, polled 394 votes to place second to Dr Delle, a Dermatologist (Skin Specialist), who had 1,008 votes in the 2003 National Delegates Congress of the Party.

He stressed the need for the election of dynamic and dedicated leaders from the constituency, regional to the national level. Other members of the national executive include Mrs Araba Bentsi-Enchil Syenson, a Political Scientist, National Vice Chairman, Mr Johnny Hanson, a veteran Politician, Professor Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary and Mr Martin Donkor, National Treasurer. Mr. Egala noted that Ghanaians suffered under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from January 1993 to December 2000 and said they were misled to vote for "a property owing minded democrats called the New Patriotic Party (NPP)" that had sustained their plight since January 2001.

The people are calling for us to sound the trumpet of 'freedom, freedom, freedom,' the slogan that echoed the airwaves on March 6th, 1957, he stated.

The slogan is more relevant in today's Ghana than it was in 1957. CPP members across the country and abroad must wake-up once again to shout the slogan loud and clear in 2008, Mr Egala said. He commended the Patriots for their effort to rejuvenate the once buoyant party to win the 2008 general election to restore the country's past glory among the community of nations.

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Dr Nii Gborbilor Fleischer, a Medical Practitioner, called on members of the party to educate themselves on the ideology of "Nkrumaism' to enable them to explain the party's vision to the electorate better for them to give their mandate to the CPP in the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Dr Fleischer noted that the CPP was at the crossroad and called for concerted effort to rejuvenate the party to make it vibrant and more marketable.

He challenged the constituency executives to work hard to provide a fitting office for the Party in the area instead of the makeshift rickety wooden kiosk.

Dr Kwaku Osafo, who is also a leading member of the Patriots called on members of the Party to disabuse their minds of the perception that the movement sought to derail the political agenda of Nkrumaism. He said members of the movement were committed to the building of a strong and united CPP capable of winning the elections.

"The most essential prerequisite to win the elections in 2008, however, is to rebuild party structures to make them functional," he said.

Other leading members of the Patriots who attended the ceremony included Dr Nii Moi Thompson, an Economists, Mr. Bright Akwetey, a legal practitioner and Mr. Kojo Armah, Member of Parliament for Evalue Gwira.
