Obuasi, Jan 16, GNA - Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, has called for a civilized campaign towards the December general elections to promote peace and democracy in the country.

"All should help make the December elections peaceful", he said. Mr Boampong, who was interacting with newsmen at Obuasi, said Ghana had made history in democracy, especially in the way it conducted elections since 1992.

He appealed to all the political parties to work hard and advised the electorate to vote for a government that had helped in the development of the country. "NPP has surpassed all the parties in this area. I want to call on Obuasi community to vote for the NPP during the elections", he said. Touching on security in Obuasi, Mr Boampong said, "We have done so much. Our major problem is the illegal mining activities". He said the issue of illegal mining in the municipality needed all stakeholders' involvement to curb it. "Illegal mining has aggravated, they are now going underground. We need alternative jobs for the people". Mr Boampong suggested that AngloGold Ashanti should liaise with the district assembly to find a way including going into large-scale oil palm plantation and setting up a company that would process the oil palm.
