MP advices people of Gomoa East to register as voters

Gomoa Benso (C/R), Jan 28, GNA- Mr Richmond Sam Quarm, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa East, at the Weekend advised eligible persons in the constituency to register as voters during the re-opening of the voter's register scheduled for March-April to enable them exercise their franchise in the 2008 Election.

He reminded the people that the re-opening of the register was an important electoral exercise and advised them to cooperate with the Electoral Commission if the programme commences to ensure its success. Mr Quarm, who was speaking at the Annual Akwanbo Festival of the chiefs and people of Gomoa Benso near Agona Swedru at the weekend, said apart from using the register for voting, it could serve as a data for determining development projects.

He advised the youth in the area to eschew anti-social activities and direct their energies into productive ventures to improve their standards of living.

Nana Aduokuwa, Queen-mother of the town, urged the people to pay their development levies promptly to enable the town to generate more revenue for development.

She advised the people to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to have access to health delivery. Nana Aduokuma urged the youth to guard against pre-marital sex to avoid contracting HIV/AIDS and reminded them that no known cure had been found to the disease yet. Mr Samuel K Mensah, Akwanbo Planning Committee Chairman of the town, announced that a Computer Laboratory Project was underway to help students in the area to become computer-literates. 28 Jan 08
