Mr Adam Mutawakilu, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo Constituency in the Northern Region has commended the people for voting massively for him in the December elections.

He said: “I accept the responsibility with humility and will like to commend the people of Damongo and all the constituents for the confidence they have reposed in me.”

Mr Mutawakilu who was also the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Damongo said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Friday that the people of the constituency voted because they understood that the future of their children had become bright with the development the MP brought to the area as DCE.

“They also understand that the challenge the modern Ghanaian society faces is too important to toy with,” he said.

Mr Mutawakilu said the constituency had been developing since its inception and that there was no single community or village which had no access to electricity. “Water is now the only problem and I will work hard to provide the constituency with water”, he added.

“As far as I am concerned, education, agriculture health and social intervention programmes will be my priority as a development facilitator; more than 50 per cent of the people in my constituency are farmers and I promise to enhance their activities with the fullest support.”

He said the NDC Government under President John Dramani Mahama will work tirelessly to bridge the developmental gap between the South and the North, adding that "The Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) is one of the developmental initiatives to bridge the gap.”

Mr Mutawakilu thanked opinion leaders, including Imams and pastors in the Damongo Constituency, for their commitment in maintaining peace during the elections and appealed to them to continue to pray for peace, unity and development.

He assured them of his commitment to develop the area, adding, “I gladly accept the mandate and hope to live up to expectation. I thank all whose efforts have contributed to this unprecedented victory.

“I hope to inspire and really represent my constituency as a member of parliament in the truest sense, with passion, humility and conviction”, the MP stated.
