Dunkwa-on-Offin (C/R), June 5, GNA - Nana Amoako, MP for Upper Denkyira East on Saturday, donated 15 computers and accessories, worth 30 million cedis and a cheque for five million cedis, to two Senior Secondary Schools in the constituency, at separate ceremonies at Dunkwa-on Offin.
Presenting 10 of the computers and the five million cedis' cheque to Boa Amponsem Secondary School, Nana Amoako said the gesture was to help make the students computer literates.
He stated that "in this modern era one would have no place in the job market, irrespective of ones 'chains of degrees without it*. The cheque, he explained was also in response to the school's appeal for assistance to construct a recreation centre for the students.
The MP said as the government made efforts to make telephone and Internet services available to all towns with secondary schools, it was imperative that schools in the constituency were equipped with computers to facilitate teaching and learning through the Internet. Nana Amoako appealed to the striking members of National Association of Graduate Teachers in the school to consider the fate of students and call of the strike action, while an amicable solution was found to their problems.
Mr Isaac Appiah, Headmaster of the School, expressed gratitude to the MP and assured him that they would be put to good use to achieve the purpose they were given.
Earlier at a meeting, Alhaji Muntala Jimah, Vice-chairman of the school's PTA, said the institution was facing serious staff accommodation problems and appealed to the two MPs in the Upper Denkyira District, to assist the PTA solve them.
Mr Anane Adabor, acting District Chief Executive, said the government had selected the school for upgrading into a model school, adding that, work would begin on the project soon. He commended the MP for the donation and urged other citizens of the area to emulate him to promote the socio-economic development.
Nana Ntow Bonkyi II, acting President of the Denkyira Traditional Council, thanked the MP, the Headmaster and staff for their efforts and also appealed to the striking members of NAGRAT to call off the strike.
The MP also donated five computers, to the Dunkwa Secondary-Technical School.
Mr Samuel Tetteh, Headmaster of the School who received them thanked the MP for the gesture.
