The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has congratulated President John Dramani Mahama on his assumption onto the highest office in the country with a call on him to employ all inclusive governance to ensure unity among the people of Ghana.
According to NUGS it is an open secret that the country is much more divided on partisanship than national cohesion after the 2012 general elections and therefore admonished the President to concentrate more on uniting the country. A release issued by the Coordinating Secretary of NUGS, Comrade Naziru Iddriss, said the union being the official mouth piece of students in Ghana “will be on high expectation of the government commitment to educational issues such as the removal of schools under trees, ensuring free compulsory universal basic education and improving access to education etc”.
The statement noted that the country has gone past the period of partisan politics and this is the time to continue the journey as a nation. “NUGS urge country’s legislators to work with sense of common purpose and togetherness in carrying out their constitutional mandate of an over sight responsibility and any other duties without fear or favour for the benefit of their constituents and mother Ghana at large despite their political differences” the statement advised.
It further said it has noticed the concerns of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the legal issues surrounding the outcome of the 2012 election adding “notwithstanding the legal issues we appeal to all political parties and citizens to come together in promoting the interest of mother Ghana.”
