Mahdi Jibril, the Deputy Director of Elections for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vehemently denied claims that the party's flagbearer, John Mahama, excluded former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu and Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak from the party's National Campaign Team for the December 7 general elections.
Following the release of the NDC Campaign Team, which did not include the two experienced politicians, there have been allegations suggesting that this omission proves the strained relationship between the former president and the two former leaders of the NDC in Parliament.
The General Secretary of the NDC released the list of party gurus forming the NDC’s campaign team on June 19, 2024.
However, speaking on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa 102.5FM, Mahdi Jibril urged the public to treat the allegation against the former President with the contempt it deserves, as it is palpably false.
He accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being behind the wicked propaganda intended to cause disaffection within the NDC.
Jibril added that Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Asawase MP, has never been a member of the NDC National Campaign team in past elections.
"Many people, especially NPP members, are making all sorts of allegations over the exclusion of Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mubarak. When have we ever seen Muntaka in the NDC national campaign team before? Asawase is one of the difficult places during elections in the Ashanti Region. Anyone going for election in that area will have to focus on that constituency to win. Muntaka needs to focus his attention on his constituency, which the governing New Patriotic Party is bent on wrestling from the NDC," he stated.
