'Mahamudu Bawumia was not evacuated from Qatar' - Miracles Aboagye clarifies

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a senior aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has debunked reports that Dr Bawumia was evacuated from Qatar amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com, he made the remarks in an interview with Citi News on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Miracles Aboagye clarified that Dr Bawumia’s travel was a standard diplomatic trip, not an emergency, as reported in the media.

“First of all, he has not been evacuated. We should put that on record. Evacuation suggests he was under some kind of distress, at risk, or under some kind of threat. That is complete misinformation,” he stated.

He explained that Dr Bawumia transited through Doha, Doha, and while Qatar temporarily closed its airspace due to regional hostilities, Saudi Arabia’s airspace remained open.

Ghana’s embassy in Qatar assisted Dr Bawumia with his onward journey to Saudi Arabia, consistent with standard diplomatic support for senior state officials.

Dr Bawumia reportedly travelled by road from Qatar to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning and is currently in the Kingdom performing Umrah.

His comments follow earlier reports suggesting that the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party was evacuated from Qatar to Saudi Arabia due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
