Majority Leader Facing Stiff Challenge In Zebilla Constituency

Tue, 6 Sep 2011 Source: Apusiyeng Alale

As the 2012 general elections draws closer and the NDC primaries closes in some of the party stalwarts in parliament are facing stiff challenges in their bid to remain in the house.

One such struggling MP is the majority leader Hon. Cletus Avoka who is the MP for Zebilla Constituency in the Upper East Region. He is on record to have promise his constituents that he will not run again if he is given the opportunity to run for the 2008 elections. Base on this promise those who had ambitions shelve it for the sake of party unity which eventually won the NDC the constituency in the 2008 elections.

However, information has it that the Honorable Majority Leader is now dragging his feet to stand down and allow others to take up the mantle of leadership in the constituency with the excuse that being the majority leader it will be suicidal if he does not go back to parliament. This has angered the vociferous foot soldiers who committed their time, energy and resources to ensure that NDC recaptures that constituency from the opposition NPP.

Credible, information gathered by this writer indicates that there are three possible contenders who will challenge Hon. Avoka for the party primaries sometime within the year in a bid to unseat him. Unconfirmed reports have it that one Abnory Moses of University of Cape Hospital, Hon. Simon Agbango who is a Principal Accountant at the Navrongo Hospital and one Mr. Benjamin Anyagre with the Civic Servants Association in Accra are the two main contenders so far. My source of information also told me that two more people are yet to join the race.

Information picked up from the constituency indicates that these three gentlemen have started moving around cajoling delegates in their bid to win the party upcoming primaries. When this writer made an attempt to reach Abnory, Hon. Agbango and Mr. Anyagre their cell phones rang several times without response. In the run up to the NDC parliament primaries, the Zebilla constituency is a must watch for all political observers because it would be interesting to see how the party will handle this potentially delicate issue of stiff challenge facing the party’s Majority Leader in parliament.

For those who doubt my story they can do their independent random sampling in the constituency for the full facts. Stay tune for more details coming soon.
