Make use of expertise and experience of former MPs - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to the leadership of Parliament of the Fourth Republic and others concerned to make maximum use of the expertise and experience of former members of parliament.

He said: “The former Members of Parliament and their forum serves as a store house of knowledge which we all need to tap their expertise and experience to propel our development agenda in all sectors of life in the country.”

President Mahama made this appeal when the Former Members of Parliament Forum called on him at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.

The members, who are drawn from all political parties since 1954, were at the Presidency to congratulate President Mahama for his victory and subsequent coronation as the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The group is not only non-partisan but also non-profit making and cuts across region, ethnic, political and geographical boundaries of the country.

President Mahama also appealed to the Former Members of Parliament Forum to offer any advice that could help the government to constructively build on the democracy that had grown since the inception of the First Republic.

He urged the former members of parliament to work assiduously towards the development of their group that could be turned into a Think-Tank for others within and outside the country to tap experience.

Mr Kosi Kedem, President of the Forum, pledged that they would offer advice to government and other stakeholders to catapult the development agenda of the country.

He said they would also use their forum to create awareness on parliamentary democracy for all Ghanaians and other African countries.
