Hundreds of NDC supporters in the Ablekuma North constituency have defected to the NPP, promising to work hard to ensure a resounding victory for the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2012 elections.
The group, “bumper to bumper” was inaugurated last Sunday at a well attended rally at the Darkuman lorry station. In attendance was the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was the Special Guest of Honour.
The Chairman and leader of the group, Musah Toufic, explained that the NDC government has failed to address the basic everyday needs of the people, making life difficult for all Ghanaians. Flanked by his team of executives, Toufic noted “we have compared the NPP and the NDC and it is obvious to all that the NPP did a better job in managing the affairs of the country.”
He observed that “one is ashamed today to call himself an NDC member because of the bad performance that President Mills’ government has put up. The suffering is too much and life is getting difficult by the day and we believe the earlier we all help retire this incompetent NDC administration, the better for the welfare of the Ghanaian people.”
He said they were fed up with the lies and deceits of the NDC adding that “2012 is the time to kick them out and bring back the NPP to come and develop Ghana and make our lives better.” We believe Akufo-Addo can do it and we want to assure him that we will do whatever we have to do to ensure that the NPP returns to power in 2013.”
On his part, the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo welcomed the group to the NPP family and urged all NPP members to open their arms wide enough to accommodate the members of the “bumper to bumper” group.
He told the group to feel at home and see the NPP as their party adding, “I am happy that you have come home finally. I am glad that you recognise yourselves that the NPP is the party that can help develop our country and its people.”
He said, “Ghana saw unprecedented development during the eight year rule of President Kufuor and the NPP and I agree with the call of “bumper to bumper” for a peaceful retirement of the incompetent Mills/Mahama NDC government.”
The NPP leader used the occasion to reiterate his commitment to providing free senior high school education to all adding that “free education and the creation of jobs are the two most important policies that I will pursue when God willing and the Ghanaian people so consenting, I become president.” He called on members of the zongo communities to reject the NDC’s propaganda and lies about the NPP and rather request the NDC to tell them what they will do to improve their lives economically.
He called on the Electoral Commission and all institutions responsible for the conduct of the general elections to do what is expected of them to ensure that the elections will be peaceful, transparent, free and fair.
He said “that way the results will be accepted readily by all, loser and winner alike.”
“Africa and the world are looking up to us in Ghana to further improve the democratic process on the continent and we should all do our best to ensure that the polls are peaceful.” In conclusion, Nana Addo noted that “the Ghanaian people are looking to us in the NPP to come and save them from the suffering and deprivation that the incompetent and visionless NDC has brought on them and we can’t fail them.”
Also in attendance amongst others were the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Hon. Joe Appiah, the MP for Ayawaso Central, Sheik I. C Quaye, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikoi South, Ahmed Arthur, former Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Salaga, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Sidique and Abubakar Sulemana, NPP National Nasara Coordinator.
