Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and flagbearer hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alban Bagbin has accused the media of attempting to mar his relationship with former President John Mahama.
According to him, suggestions that he and the former President are at loggerheads is inaccurate and creation of the media.
“People think that I and John Dramani Mahama are not the best of friends. You will be deceiving yourself. You will be deceiving yourself because we met in Senior High, Secondary School. I was one year ahead of him and one year older than him.
“So we know each other. It’s the media that’s trying to cause difference among us,” he stated Sunday, September 23 when he stormed Prestea to interact with the executives from six constituencies with Prestea Huni-Valley being the host constituency.
Bagbin who’s one of the leading contenders in the scramble to lead the NDC in the 2020 election constantly, without provocation, questions Mahama’s appointing competence describing his administration as an animal farm government, where ‘monkeys were working, while baboons chopped.’
Pained to see NDC elders in poor condition
In an earlier conversation with Sefwi Juaboso based Rainbow Radio Bagbin noted that it was heartrending to see members of the NDC, especially, the elders wallow in abject poverty despite the umbrella family having been in power for some time.
According to him, the NDC whilst in power did little to improve the living conditions of its members, a situation he says is having a huge toll on the party’s reorganization in order to recapture power in 2020.
However, he said, all is not lost since the 2020 general elections will present them another opportunity to make this better for all when the party wins power.
“It pains my heart that from 1992 up to date, the members of the NDC are even poorer than they started. And if you look at the cadres, if you look at the founding fathers; if you look at the former office holders like Members of Parliament, DCEs and the rest, sometimes you ask yourself is it worth it? We are getting something wrong. We are not taking care of ourselves”, he noted.
