Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku, the Member of Parliament for Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has had a unique political journey. She has contested in three different constituencies as a parliamentary candidate.

She first contested the Dome Kwabenya constituency on the NDC ticket in the 2012 general elections after being elected as the party's parliamentary candidate.

She lost the seat to Adwoa Safo, who polled 63,373 votes (63.75%), while Sophia Karen polled 35,366 (35.58%).

In 2015, she contested the parliamentary primaries for Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region and won, subsequently participating in the general elections.

She won the general elections and represented her constituency for two terms—in 2016, she obtained 14,301 votes out of the 21,506 cast, representing 68.3 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

In 2020, she won with 22,083 votes representing 60.46% of the total votes.

However, her political journey took an unexpected turn. In May 2023, she deserted her current constituency to contest the NDC parliamentary slot in the Ayawaso Central Constituency.

She lost the contest after polls on Saturday, May 13, 2023, to Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu who polled 797 votes.

Despite her track record, she could not retain her seat in parliament.

Consequently, her tenure as MP officially ends on January 7, 2025.
