Mensah-Takyi is the NDC parliamentary candidate for Akim Swedru

Akyem Swedru, Oct 10, GNA - A 47-year-old farmer, Baafour Mensah-Takyi, was on Friday, elected by popular acclamation as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for the Akim Swedru constituency.

The 121 delegates at the party's delegates congress held at Akim Swedru and supervised by the Electoral Commission endorsed mensah-Takyi who was the only candidate to have filed his nomination.

Mr Mensah-Takyi thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and called for unity and support to enable the party to capture the seat from the NPP.

Mr Kwadwo Attah-Krah, a leading member of the party, accused the NPP of indulging in hypocrisy, saying while the party opposed the introduction of the GETFund, the "government now basks in glory when using proceeds from the fund to donate buses to the schools."

The Member of Parliament for Gomua West, Mrs Amma Benyiwa-Doe, urged the party's activists to dwell on issues during their electioneering campaign and to make people aware of the bad policies of the government such as the high cost of living.

She accused the government of discriminating in the granting of poverty alleviation loans and urged NDC supporters to close their ranks to enable the party to win the December elections massively.
