*As NDC declare him fit for 2008

A group in the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) calling itself Friends of Atta Mills (FOAM) has begged Ghanaians to elect the NDC flagbearer as the next President in the 2008 general elections for him to “transform Ghana in a short possible time for a better and best living place”.

“Professor Atta Mills has the best vision for Ghana’s economy- please elect him”, the group noted, adding that Atta Mills has a good four-years experience in governance as a former Vice President. Elect him in 2008, they therefore argued.

The NDC members said Prof. Mills is blessed with vision and foresaw how the mighty arm of the Lord God will crush President Kufour and his NPP government with serious multiple crisis for Ghanaians to vote them out in the year 2008. That is why he quickly conceded defeat after the 2004 general elections, they claim.

With the spirit of the fear of God, tolerance, patience and love for Ghana, FOAM, in a statement issued to this paper on Monday, reiterated that Prof Mills heeded to advice to save the country from being caught up in a civil war when he was compelled to concede defeat after the 2000 and especially 2004 general elections.

They claim that the 2004 elections were yet to be gazetted to confirm anything, and that only time will tell whether or not President Kufuor really and honesty won the 2004 presidential elections.

“By the adage, coming events cast their shadows and this is clearly seen about Prof.”

The group maintained that the Prof since 2000 has advised the youth of the country to take up the teaching profession as a lucrative and honourable job, but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government without vision created a platform to condemn and insult him.

“Just recently, Prof Atta Mills with a cream of wisdom and vision has come out to advise government how to solve the energy crisis”, the statement stressed, saying that his caring and visionary spirit also carried him to visit the Akosombo dam to see and know what really the situation there was.

The NDC said upon the engineer’s information, “the man of vision quickly went ahead to offer his team of experts to help bring the end of the energy crisis but out of jealousy and useless pride, Prof. Atta Mills was once again attacked with insult by the NPP Energy Minster, his deputy and other shameless and ignorant serial callers on both radio and television”.

They argued that Prof Mills’ good vision led him to introduce the Value Added Tax (VAT), the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GetFUND), daily commercial vehicle income tax and quarterly commercial business tax to generate a nationwide fund to support government.
