Minority Leader inaugurates TESCON in Kumasi

Kumasi, July 6, GNA - Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Suame has urged students to be committed to the manifesto and ideologies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and explain them to the people.

This, he said, would help win more people for the party to increase its membership to help the party win the 2012 elections. Mr. Mensah-Bonsu gave the advice at the inauguration of a 13 member Executive Committee of the Kumasi Wesley College of Education Tertiary Education Student's Confederacy (TESCON) in Kumasi at the weekend. The occasion was under the theme: "The Role of TESCON of the NPP". He commended the immense contributions the members of TESCON played in the last general election as polling agents, and said that contributed greatly in checking election malpractices in most of the polling stations.

Mr. Mensah-Bonsu also said the eight year term of President Kufuor saw a remarkable improvement in the economy as compared to that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under President Jerry John Rawlings. He noted that there were also significant improvements in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Income Per Capita, Balance of Payments and others, and that put the economy on sound footing.

The Minority Leader stated that some economic policies like the Mass Cocoa Spraying Exercise, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), National Youth Employment Programme and others, were contributing towards the growth of the country.

Mr. Albert Ken Dapaah, Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere said the task ahead of the party was enormous and asked the students to work harder and educate the people on the policies and programmes of the party, to enable it wrest power from the NDC in 2012 elections. Mr. Emanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, former Ashanti Regional Minister and the Member of Parliament for Kwabre West, said as future leaders, they were expected to propagate the good works of the party to the understanding of the people at all times.

The 13 member executives include Mr. Owusu Mensah, President, Mr. Dominic Kwaku Afriyie, Vice-President, Mr. Samuel Manu, Organiser, Mr. Osei Kwadwo Raphael, Secretary and Mrs. Constance Serwaah Boateng, Women's Organizer.

Mr. George Ayisi Boateng, a founding member of the party who chaired the function, charged the executives to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently to help raise the image of the party. 6 July 09
