Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East, has alleged that her contender, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Hawa Koomson, attacked her.
She alleged that her car was shot at several times and she is familiar with the car and the people in the said V8, whom she asserts are affiliated with Hawa Koomson.
She added that she has reported the issue to the police and is awaiting their action.
“I went back to visit one of the collation centres, which is Iron City... I realized that there was a V8 with the boys, Simon and the rest, who had followed me and shot one of my guys. In fact, they shot at my car several times.
“The place is not peaceful. The guy has killed someone and injured another, but the police are not doing anything. It is from my opponent because I know the car. The same boys have attacked me before. I am not safe; my life is in danger as I speak.
“Whether she likes it or not, I have won the election. Right now, I am struggling,” she said.
Counting and results declaration are underway following the closure of polls at 5pm across most of the polling centres in the country.
The 2024 elections took place across 276 constituencies in the country, with the process being largely peaceful.
Pockets of violence have, however, been recorded, with one person confirmed dead in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
The EC has meanwhile urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as they execute their mandate of delivering a successful election.
