Suspended Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Ernesto Yeboah has revealed that his recent suspension from the party has nothing to do with former flagbearer, Samia Yaba Nkrumah.

Opinions have been expressed that there could be more to his suspension due to his close association with the former chairperson of the party but Mr Yeboah has dispelled such suggestions.

He told Chief Jerry Forson, the host of Ghana Yensom, Accra100.5FM’s breakfast show, on Friday July 1 that: “This (the suspension) has nothing to do with Madam Samia Yaba Nkrumah. She is at Jomoro campaigning just to push the party forward. It is about the fight against corruption and fighting a corrupt society.”

He continued: “Corruption has taken a central place in our society and [it is] not about personalities or Madam Samia.”

The leadership of the CPP has suspended indefinitely General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah as well.

The reasons behind the suspension of the two are not clear yet but ClassFMonline.com learns that it is linked with the flagbearer’s recent comments on President John Mahama’s Ford Expedition gift saga, which the youth wing of the party petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) about.

Following the flagbearer of the party, Mr Ivor Greenstreet’s comments that the Ford Expedition gift was not a case of conflict of interest, the general secretary said the flagbearer should have consulted the party on such matters before speaking.

According to the party’s communication director Rauf Kadir, the suspension of the two has to do with “proven misbehaviour”, explaining that “their comments and behaviour have been contradicting” the stance of the party. Mr Kadir told Emefa Apawu on Class91.3FM’s 505 news programme on Thursday June 30 that the actions of the two had been inimical to the interest of the party.

Mr Yeboah, however, maintained that they were being victimised by the party for their stance on corruption and their insistence that the president be made to answer for his conduct in the vehicle gift saga.
