NADMO broke: MP accuses Mahama of spending cash on Legon girls

New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua constituency in Ashanti Region, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has blamed the indebtedness of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to the lavish spending of state resources on Legon girls by President John Mahama.

The Member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said President Mahama's wanton way of spending state resources in the run-up to the 2012 elections has led to NADMO's indebtedness.

The Acting National Coordinator of NADMO, Brigadier General Francis Sanziri, revealed at yesterday's sitting of PAC that his outfit is constantly being harassed by suppliers of relief items for owing them to the tune of over GHC40, 000.

According to him, the harassment has intensified after suppliers of 2015 were paid their money against those of 2014, stressing that the situation is having an effect on the operations of NADMO.

Brigadier General Francis Sanziri told PAC that NADMO have little or no stock, and they will need resources, so they prepare ahead of any unforeseen disaster.

But speaking in an interview with Kwame Tutu on frontline on Rainbow Radio, Hon. Issac Asiamah posited that President Mahama in 2012 used state resources to purchase Hyundai i10 for Legon girls and some traditional leaders who are perceived to be allies of the ruling government.

The legislator stated that after the general elections, Ghana was hit by an unprecedented budget over-run and deficit.

Asked if he had evidence to prove his allegation, the MP told the host that Ghanaians are aware of what President John Mahama did for the so-called student groups at the University of Ghana including Tein.

He noted that President Mahama's recklessness has affected operations of almost all the various state institutions in the country because they are under-resourced.

Hon. Isaac Asiamah said, the core aim of President Mahama in 2012 was not to transform lives as he promised, but his mission was to amass wealth for himself, friends and cronies, and that he [President Mahama] is on a mission to repeat his lavish spending through his 'Accounting To the People' tour.

"Government's inability to resource NADMO and all other state institutions is due to the lavish spending of state resources on President Mahama's campaign ahead of the Presidential Elections. His [President Mahama] aim was to become President at all cost at the expense of Ghanaians... He had no vision in transforming Ghana, but his mission was to enrich himself, friends, family and cronies."

He lambasted the President for running the economy down through their mismanagement and incompetence.

He further blamed Ghana's unresolved energy crisis on the unavailability of resources which the NDC-led by President Mahama allegedly spent on their campaign in 2012 and still doing same this election year.

Hon. Isaac Asiamah was of the view that sanctions must be applied in dealing with persons under whose supervision the state lost resources or revenue to serve as a deterrent to others.
