NADMO not aligned to any political party

Kuntanase (Ash), Feb.23, GNA - A District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has debunked speculation in certain circles that the organisation was aligned to a particular political party.

Mr. Daniel Asuo-Afram, NADMO Co-ordinator for Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district said on the contrary, NADMO was a neutral entity, which was established to serve the interest of the general public and not a particular party nor a selected few. Mr Asuo-Afram made the statement in a briefing with the GNA at Kuntanase on the achievements and challenges facing the organisation.

He said the perception that the NADMO was concerned only with the management of disasters and supply of relief items was equally misplaced, since NADMO's main focus was on the prevention of disasters. Mr Asuo-Afram said in line with its preventive mechanism, NDAMO plans nursing 15,000 tree seedling for distribution to schools and a number of local communities in the district this year.

The trees to be nursed include acaecea, nim and teak.

Mr Asuo-Afram said apart from nursing and distributing seedlings, NADMO also embarks on vigorous educational campaign drives in collaboration with the unit committees, to educate the local people on the need to adopt life-styles, especially planting of trees that would help prevent disasters from striking.
