Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other petitioners challenging the results of the 2012 presidential election at the Supreme Court have been lauded for seeking redress in court.

The Ashanti Regional branch of Nana Addo For President Movement (NAFOP) said the commendable action by the petitioners had helped to sustain peace in the country.

The pro-NPP group insisted that the petitioners had strengthened Ghana’s democracy.

“The executive and members of Ashanti Regional NAFOP wish to commend the petitioners, Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, National Executive Council, all the members of NPP and all well-meaning Ghanaians who have supported this cause.”

This was contained in a release issued to the media and signed by Ackah-Kujo Simon and Akowuah Thomas, Ashanti Regional NAFOP Secretary and Deputy Secretary respectively.

The Ashanti Regional NAFOP said though the constitution allows citizens to challenge the outcome of presidential elections, Ghanaians, in the past, failed to utilize that provision in the constitution.

According to NAFOP, the petitioners must be commended by all-meaning Ghanaians that have the peace and development of the country at heart.

Members of NAFOP also saluted the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood and the other justices of the Supreme Court for telecasting the court proceedings.

NAFOP prayed fervently to God to continually protect the nine justices of the Supreme Court hearing the presidential election petition, stressing that NAFOP has firm belief in the justices to deliver a credible verdict.
