Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anag-La, President, National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Thursday launched his bid to contest the presidency for a second term.

He said his vision was to build a formidable and resilient NALAG, having laid a solid foundation for the Association in the past two years.

Nii Anag-La said this when he launched his campaign in Ho, the Volta regional capital, to herald the presentation of motorbikes to Assembly members in Ho.

He said procuring motorbikes for Assembly members was one of his major achievements, aside working for a constitutional review for end of service benefits of Presiding Members and Assembly Members to be charged on the consolidated fund and not on Assembly's internally generated fund, just like article 71 officeholders.

Nii Anag-La, who is also the Mayor of Tema, promised "vigorous" training and capacity building through certificate courses in higher institutions like the Institute of Local Government Studies for members to make them "relevant even after their term of office" and asked them to vote massively for him.

He also hinted of plans to set up a "robust" welfare fund through the allocation of ten per cent members' dues to the scheme to cushion them during difficult times.

The NALAG President said he had an unfinished business with the Association, and that, when elected for the second term, he would initiate a constitutional review to expand the National Executive Committee for the inclusion of Regional Deans of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and Presiding Members for inclusive representation and to enhance effective flow of information.

Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, on behalf of the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development later gave him keys to 1037 motorbikes to be given to Assembly Members in Oti and Volta regions.
