NDC 1 million votes a hoax – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako AKA ‘Wontumi’, has described the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) one million votes target in the Ashanti Region as a mere political talk.

He stated categorically that the NPP is capable of winning a staggering 90 percent of valid votes across all the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections slated for November this year.

Wontumi said the NDC were aware that they didn’t stand the chance of making an impact during the elections in the Ashanti Region, yet they had been bragging that they would win one million votes in the region, just to scare NPP members.

He consequently entreated all NPP loyalists in the region not to be worried about the NDC’s over ambitious target, stressing that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would lead the NPP to win the elections and “the victory will start from the Ashanti Region”.

Wontumi was speaking in an interview with DAILY GUIDE during the one-week celebration of the Ahafo Ano South Constituency Chairman of the NPP, the late Anthony Osei Yaw Akoto, who died in a fatal vehicular accident some days ago.

NPP bigwigs from the national, regional and the various constituencies in the Ashanti Region and beyond converged on Kunsu during the one-week celebration of the man described as a pillar of the NPP, who served the party faithfully till his sudden demise.

Wontumi, who sounded confident, stated that there was no way political victory would elude the NPP in the coming elections, charging the teeming NPP supporters across the country to continue to be hardworking until the day of the elections.

He said the NDC had failed the electorates, noting that it was, therefore, impossible for Ghanaians to renew the mandate of the NDC when the country went to the polls. But he was quick to remind his party members that the NPP’s victory would not come on a silver platter.

On behalf of the NPP, Wontumi commiserated with the bereaved family and assured that the NPP would win the polls to honour the late chairman.

On his part, the NPP First Vice Chairman in the constituency, Mr Yaw Donkor, described the death of their chairman as a big blow to the party and its members in the area, but he was quick to assure that the NPP was resolute to win 90 percent of votes in the area.
