NDC, Halt The Intimidation!!

Sat, 1 Dec 2012 Source: --

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is outraged by the turn of events following the signing of what has come to be known as the “Kumasi Declaration” of peace by all the eight (8) Presidential Candidates organized by the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), the Peace Council and the Manhyia Palace.

If the wielding of machete and guns by known NDC thugs and firing of gunshot into a congregated party activity in Ashtown (Manhyia Constituency) by an NDC sympathizer is anything to go by then AFAG is by this declaration calling for an immediate intervention by Manhyia and the good people of the region before anything thunderous hit Asanteman in the name of someone’s insistent quest to hang on to power.

This is certainly an act of indignation and an affront to the Peace Accord signed by the Presidential Candidates.

We are however not surprised by the conduct of the NDC, in light of the Yaw Boateng Gyan tape which spelt out some measures to intimidate the electorate and thereby gain some electoral advantage over its opponents in the upcoming elections.

As a group so committed to the consolidation of our democracy, we are of the strong opinion that leadership of this country should be determined by the counting of heads and not by the cutting of heads. In this regard we unreservedly condemn the action of the NDC activists.

Again, we also call on the various security agencies to continuously be mindful of the fact that utmost loyalty and allegiance should be to the state and not individuals or political parties. The situation where our men in uniform pander to the whims of politicians for short term gratification must be done away with at this crucial point in our life as a country.

We also wish to serve notice to President Mahama that as incumbent President, he has a greater responsibility at ensuring that there is peace before, during and after the upcoming elections. The president must work assiduously to preserve the peace his party inherited after the 2008 elections.

Finally, we wish to remind the people of Ashanti Region that all is set for AFAG’s Gargantuan Corruption Forum at the Atipinhene Park at 1:00pm on Saturday December 1, 2012.
