Adama Sulemana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tain Constituency in the Bono Region, has voiced significant concerns regarding the substantial presence of personnel from the Formed Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service in his constituency.
This deployment is associated with the ongoing Voter Transfer exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Sulemana alleges that his constituency is effectively under siege by approximately 30 heavily armed officers from the riot control unit of the Ghana Police Service in Accra.
He claims these officers are positioned at the Electoral Commission's office, purportedly aiding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in carrying out unlawful voter transfers during the exercise.
In an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show, hosted by Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, Mr. Sulemana claimed that individuals are being transported from neighboring areas such as Dwenem, Japekrom, Techiman, and Sunyani to illicitly transfer their votes to Tain.
"As I speak with you, police officers from Accra have been brought in to intimidate and assault my people, preventing them from participating in the exercise and creating favorable conditions for the NPP in the constituency," he asserted.
He further accused the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Tain of orchestrating these illegal transfers to improve his chances of winning the seat.
The police have reportedly cordoned off the area and forcibly removed him from the EC’s premises when he protested the NPP's actions concerning the transfer of votes for individuals deemed non-residents of the constituency.
