Sulemana Mustapha, a Physical Education tutor at the Techiman Senior High School has impregnated a third year student of the school.
The student, Priscilla Adante, who was studying Visual Arts, has since left the school.
Mr. Sulemana, a vociferous member of the Techiman South National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, has been transferred from the municipality after he promised to take care of the poor girl till she delivered.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE on the unfortunate incident, the Headmaster of the school, M.K. Boakye said after investigation, he referred the matter to the Municipal Director of Education, Godfred Axolu.
Investigation conducted by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the Municipal Director of Education invited the parents of the girl and the teacher to his office, where the teacher accepted responsibility.
Initially, NDC bigwigs in the Techiman Municipality tried desperately to cover up the case but some peeved teachers of the school spilled the beans.
When the rumour started going round, DAILY GUIDE interviewed Mr. Sulemana to listen to his side of the story. However, he vehemently denied that he knew anything about the girl.
Meanwhile, Sulemana who used to be a panel member on a local private radio station, Classic FM political programme, has been barred from taking part following the despicable act.
It was alleged that when he appeared before the Municipal Director of Education, he pleaded that the director should transfer him to Tuobodom Secondary School in the same municipality, but the Director refused.
While this report was being put together, a gender activist, Madam Eugenia Mensah has threatened to report the case to CHRAJ for further investigation, since the issue of masters impregnating students was rampant in Ghana.
She told DAILY GUIDE that if the parents of the poor girl refused to support her quest to pursue the case, she would spend her precious time to follow up the case so it would serve as deterrent to others.
She said it was not acceptable for teachers to end the education of poor girls through immoral deeds in these hard times when parents were finding it difficult to pay the school fees of their wards.
According to Madam Mensah, taking care of the girl while pregnant was not enough, but that the teacher should be made to take care of the education of the girl after she delivered the child.
She said similar cases do happen in many schools in the country, however, it seemed authorities of those schools where tutors impregnated students, swept the cases under the carpet, fearing the names of their schools would be dragged in the mud.
