Nkwanta, Nov 2, GNA - Over 2,000 members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the People's National Convention (PNC) in Nkwanta South constituency have joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The defectors were shown to the public at a ceremony at which Mr Joseph Booker Denteh, Nkwanta District Chief Executive, was endorsed as the NPP's parliamentary candidate for the 2008 elections.

Mr Michael Lijowel, a former parliamentary candidate of the PNC in the 2004 elections, said the dignity and democratic credentials of President John Agyekum Kufuor compelled him to join the NPP.

Mr Martin Nsentey, former Nkwanta South Constituency Secretary of NDC, said he was attracted to the NPP because it had fulfilled its campaign promises and brought development to the doorsteps of the rural people.

He said politics was about development and any political party that identified itself with the development aspirations of the masses must be encouraged to do more.

Mr Francis Nyame, former campaign manager of Mr Gershon Gbediame, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta-South, said he would assist Mr Denteh to win the seat.

Mr Thomas Achienase, a former NDC stalwart, said NPP had deepened the meaning of democracy and rule of law and this touched his heart. Mr Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the NPP, welcomed the defectors.
