It was all fanfare at The Kukurantumi Social Centre (The
Point), in the Abuakwa-North Constituency when thousands of NDC and NPP
supporters gathered to witness NDC delegates elect Ambassador Victor Smith as
the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency for the 2012 election.
Victor Smith, who is Ghana’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic
and who was standing unopposed arrived at the grounds in an all-white attire
signaling victory to wild cheers and jubilation from the thousands who had
stormed the place.
Various groups, including NPP supporters, took turns to
explain why they were throwing their weight behind Ambassador Victor Smith’s
bid to represent the constituency from 2013. They enumerated the development
projects he has initiated in the constituency even before he becomes their MP,
pointing out that it was ample evidence of his commitment to help develop the
deplorable infrastructure in the constituency.
The Electoral Commission official present had an easy job
declaring the Ambassador as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the 2012
election when he told the crowd that since he was standing unopposed, they
should say “yes” if they want him as their parliamentary candidate.
The deafening positive response could wake an elephant in
coma up. And when the EC official declared Victor Smith so elected, the crowd
went into frenzy, singing and dancing to music provided by Jewel Ackah.
Atta-Boateng, a leading Member of the NPP called for unity
within the NDC in the constituency saying that if the party is united, their
votes added to theirs (NPP supporters) will enable Victor Smith chalk a
landslide victory when the results are called.
Mr. Nuamah Donkor, Victor Smith’s Campaign Manager who is
credited for so far helping him carry out a successful campaign thanked the
gathering for their support, pledging that Victor Smith will win the
parliamentary elections and bring development to Abuakwa-North.
Ambassador Victor Smith thanked the delegates for their
support and pledged not to let them down.
He applauded the collaboration between the NDC and the vast
majority of NPP supporters in the constituency towards ensuring his eventual
victory in 2012 saying the development of Abuakwa-North should be paramount in
all agendas.
