The Regional Chairmen’s caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unanimously endorsed President John Dramani Mahama’s selection of Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur as running mate for Election 2016.

“We find in Vice President Amissah-Arthur, a trusted, loyal, hardworking and knowledgeable person whose roots date back to the historical origins of our great party.

“We note with admiration the affable relationship and the team spirit with which President Mahama works with his Vice as they lead in the execution of the onerous responsibilities under the Changing Lives Transforming Ghana Agenda,” the NDC Regional Chairmen Caucus stated in a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

The statement signed by Mr Joseph Kobina Ade Coker, Chairman of the NDC Regional Chairmen’s caucus emphasis: “We, the Regional Chairmen of the NDC, wish to call on all members, supporters and sympathizers of the party to rally behind President Mahama and Vice President Ammisah-Arthur with their unflinching support as we enter the elections year.

“The process for NDC Election 2016 victory has just begun and we must all work together as one big family with one common destiny hand-in-hand across the country to transform Ghana,” the statement said.

The statement issued after a strategic meeting by the NDC Regional Chairmen affirmed that the Party has taken the people of Ghana safely through one of the most difficult political, economic and social periods of Ghana’s history.

“The good news is that contrary to what our critics say, the NDC has managed this difficult period very well and has won the admiration of the silent majority of Ghanaians who are waiting to renew our mandate in 2016.

“We must therefore continue to support President Mahama and Vice President Ammisah-Arthur by working tirelessly to explain current economic and social realities to the good people of Ghana.

“The NDC Regional Chairmen assured Ghanaians of continuous good leadership at the national, regional, and constituency levels of the Party to ensure a prosperous future that lie ahead of Ghana under a stable and united Party through the pragmatic leadership of President Mahama”.

President Mahama on December 7 presented the name of Mr Amissah-Arthur to the NDC National Executive Council and Council of Elders as his Vice Presidential candidate for Elections 2016.

In a ceremony at the NDC office, President Mahama said: “I must go into the 2016 elections with a running mate. I have had no difficulties settling on my hardworking Vice President as my running mate for the second term."

The programme was also attended by ministers of state, the NDC Party hierarchy and the Majority Leadership in Parliament.

President Mahama said Vice President Amissah-Arthur had work hard in the past years, a situation that encouraged him to maintain him as the Vice Presidential candidate in the 2016 general election.
