Accra, July 19, GNA - Regional Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday fixed Wednesday, July 21, for NDC National Stock-Taking Conference on party-government relations for the past 19-months, in Accra.

The conference is on the theme: "Developing a cohesive agenda towards strengthening a solid party for Election 2012".

Speaking to Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Kobina Ade-Coker, Chairman of NDC Regional Chairmen's Caucus, said that other issues to be discussed include measures to strengthen the party's structures and critical analysis of development within the party over the period.

The rest are examination of the general political environment in the country; honest assessment of the state of the party at the regional levels and adoption of measures to strengthen the regional communication machinery.

Mr Ade-Coker, who is the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, said that NDC was committed to upholding democratic values, stressing that "Democracy, adherence to the tenets of human rights and good governance are valued policy goals of the Government".

He said that even though every elected government would claim adherence to these democratic values, the opposition would be highly critical of incumbent government's record in democratic practice.

Mr Ade-Coker said "Violent conflict has not been very helpful in maintaining practices of good democratic governance and safeguarding of human rights, hence the need to constantly engage each other to build a solid party."
