The Central Regional Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has fingered Hon. E.T. Mensah, an NDC national Vice Chairman, for causing commotion in the Awutu Senya constituency and threatened that they would vote skirt and blouse if moves to smuggle a defeated aspiring MP were not halted immediately.
But Mr. E.T Mensah told The Chronicle yesterday that the allegations were baseless and unfounded. He said the primaries which saw Babalamin as winner had been nullified by the party According to the regional executives of the NDC, they are aware that E.T. Mensah was manoeuvring to impose one Moses Acquah who lost the primaries to Alhaji Babalamin to stand as MP on the NDC?s ticket. ?The Central Regional Committee of the NDC has learnt with great shock, moves by E.T Mensah, one of the Vice chairmen of the NDC to make one Moses Acquah who lost the primaries at Awutu-Senya to Alhaji Babalamin to stand on the ticket of the NDC in the Awutu-Senya constituency of the NDC.?
A statement issued by the regional secretary, Mr. P.L. Koomson, said that at a meeting held on Tuesday, Hon. E.T Mensah kicked against the unanimous decision that Babalami be allowed to contest as the NDC candidate and showed glaring symptoms that he was in favor of Moses Acquah.
According to Mr. Koomson, E.T Mensah?s entrenched stand to impose Acquah on the constituency was the result of an axe he had to grind with Babalamin. ?If this happens and since it will be very absurd, we the entire regional executives will go all out to back Babalamin to stand as an independent candidate.?
Sounding a word of caution to their vice chairman, the secretary statement said, ?We in the Central Region sound this note of warning to E.T Mensah, and those who think like him. If he goes ahead and fields Moses Acquah in that constituency, the whole regional executive members will support and back Alhaji Babalamin to go independent and we are sure that he will win the seat for us.?
According to them, Babalamin?s popularity and credence among the electorate in the area was even known to Mrs. Hannah Tetteh Kpodah, the outgoing MP who decided not to contest the seat again.
Mr. Koomson urged E. T Mensah to concentrate on his constituency, which was full of myriads of problems, and leave Awutu-Senya in peace. But Mr. E.T Mensah has denied flatly all the accusations leveled against him, saying that they were baseless, unfounded and untrue. ?Everybody knows how our meetings were being organised. How can I stand against the decision of all the members? I don?t have the power to do that. Even no chairman has the power to do that. We must go by the decision of the majority.?
