Accra, Nov. 14, GNA - Mr Mohammed Mubarak Abdulai, a youth activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday commended Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications for contributing towards the development of the youth in the party.

He noted that through the leadership of Mr Iddrisu, who doubles as the National Youth Organiser, the party's youth wing has become an integral organ for national development.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agenc y in Accra, Mr Mubarak Abdulai urged youth activists of the party to continue to be resolute and play effective roles as campaigners of the party.

"Since we represent the backbone of the NDC and for that matter the government, we must adopt dynamic mechanism of engagement with our opponents, project governments' achievement as the party marches towards retaining power in Election 2012," he said.

Mr Mubarak Abdulai entreated the youth to keep the party's structures alive and always defend the NDC with the necessary facts, collaborate with ministers of state and members of parliament for the development of the effective weapon to derail opposition political agenda from the grassroots to the national level.

He called on the youth to avoid all forms of violence and acts of lawlessness in order to promote peace in the country; adding, "the future of the Ghana is in our hands, hence there was a need for the youth to avoid creating unnecessary tension in the country".

Mr Mubarak Abdulai observed that unlike other parties, the NDC sees its Youth Wing as an integral and autonomous organ of the party and had therefore accorded the position a national executive recognition. Commenting on the intense backstage manoeuvring within the party as it prepares for the December delegates congress to elect members to occupy various executive positions, Mr Mubarak Abdulai called for decorum among supporters and sympathisers of the NDC to facilitate the success of the event.

"We must avoid internal politicking that would create division. Let's accommodate each other and save our energy and resources against our opponents."

The positions expected to be keenly contested for are the chairman, general secretary and three vice-chairpersons, National Organiser and Deputy National Organiser.

The Youth Organiser is however elected by youth representatives at the Youth National Congress. He supported calls to debar government officials from contesting for party positions because of their tight official schedules, stressing those executive positions should be considered as full time employment to ensure meaningful progress. 14 Nov. 09
