Accra, June 20, GNA - The National Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Founder of the party, former President Jerry John Rawlings to 93continue to play his fatherly role and put the party's interest above any other consideration". In a statement issued to the media on Monday in Accra, the Caucus said: 93We believe he is an important personality that the party will need for election 2012 and we appeal to him to be circumspect in his utterances so as to strengthen the unity of the party before, during and after the congress."

The Caucus wished the two candidates vying for the party's presidential ticket during the party's congress on July 8-10 well and called on delegates to make appropriate choice of the person who would ensure the unity of the party and lead it to victory in 2012. President John Evans Atta Mills and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings are the two candidates vying for the party's ticket. The Zongo Caucus cautioned all groups and individuals to be careful about what they say and make sure their actions were in the interest of the party.

"We must all show decorum in our statements and accord our party leaders the necessary respect they deserve."

It cautioned the Zongo youth not to allow themselves to be used by an individual or group for any act or violence before, during and after the congress.

"We in the Zongo Caucus are entirely for the NDC party, our goal and mission is the NDC party. Any pressure group or persons whose actions or inactions negatively affect the interest of the party, no matter that person's position or group's contribution to the party, will not be acceptable to the Zongo Caucus," the statement said.
