Kumasi, June 1, GNA - The Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress in Kumasi, has appealed to the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to end its strike action and return to the classroom. The caucus expressed concern about the plight of final-year senior secondary school students who have been affected by the strike action. The appeal, which was contained in a press release, said even though NAGRAT may be fighting a just course, they should also sympathise with the students.

Alhaji Othman Yayha, the Chairman and Alhaji Alhassan Ibn Ibrahim, Secretary, signed the release issued in Kumasi on Wednesday. The caucus said many people acknowledged the unique and sacrificial role of teachers and the continued impact they make on society, and should not allow materialism to erode the confidence people have in them.

They observed that it was better for NAGRAT to pursue its negotiations with the Government while at post, since that would yield a faster and better dividend and also draw greater support from the public.

While persuading NAGRAT to return to the classroom, the caucus also urged the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service to soften their position on the impasse even though the proper channels might not have been followed by NAGRAT.

The caucus counselled students against capitalising on the strike action to fail to attend school or to study They should rather seize the opportunity to study on their own and make full use of school's libraries.
