A prominent activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Delanyo Agbe, has called on the party's flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to accept the presidential debate challenge issued by his opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an article published, Agbe urged Mahama to demonstrate his leadership and commitment to transparency and accountability by engaging in a debate with Dr. Bawumia.

"Mr. Mahama, we urge you to accept this challenge and articulate your plans and policies to the good people of Ghana," Agbe wrote.

"A debate will provide an opportunity for you to counter misinformation and connect with the electorate," he added.

Presidential Debate: The Need for John Mahama to Debate Bawumia:

As the 2024 election approaches, the political landscape in Ghana is heating up with calls for presidential debates between the major candidates. Recently, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, challenged our candidate, John Dramani Mahama, to a debate. This challenge presents a crucial opportunity for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and informed leadership.

A presidential debate is not just a mere contest of rhetoric; it is a platform for candidates to outline their visions, policies, and solutions to the myriad issues facing our nation. By accepting this challenge, John Mahama can directly engage with the electorate, addressing their concerns and presenting the NDC’s comprehensive plans for Ghana’s future.

Why Mahama should debate Bawumia:

Accepting the debate challenge would show that John Mahama is confident in his leadership and prepared to discuss and defend his policies in a public forum. This would send a strong message to voters that he is ready to lead Ghana once again.

A debate provides a platform to clearly distinguish the NDC’s policies from those of the NPP. It allows Mahama to articulate his vision for economic growth, education, healthcare, and other critical areas, highlighting the shortcomings of the current administration and presenting viable alternatives.

Voters deserve to hear directly from the candidates about how they intend to address the challenges facing the nation. A debate engages the electorate, fostering a more informed voting populace. It also offers Mahama the chance to connect with undecided voters and galvanize support from the NDC base.

There have been numerous misconceptions and misinformation spread by our opponents. A debate is an ideal opportunity for Mahama to set the record straight, rebut false claims, and present facts and achievements that may have been overshadowed by propaganda.

It is also essential to address the role of those advising John Mahama. It is imperative that his advisors provide him with sound, strategic advice that aligns with the best interests of the party and the nation. There is a concerning trend of some individuals within the party feeding him advice that may not necessarily serve the broader objectives of the NDC.

Shielding John Mahama from public debates and engagements can be detrimental. It can be perceived as a lack of confidence in his abilities and ideas. Instead, support him in preparing thoroughly for such engagements.

While political strategy is important, the substance of what Mahama represents is even more critical. Ensure that the advice provided is grounded in facts, policy, and the genuine needs of the Ghanaian people.

I strongly urge John Dramani Mahama to accept the debate challenge from Dr. Bawumia. This is a pivotal moment for the NDC to showcase its readiness to lead and to demonstrate the depth of its policies and vision for Ghana. Additionally, those around him must prioritize the party's long-term success over short-term tactical gains.

By engaging in a robust and transparent debate, Mahama can reaffirm his commitment to the principles of democracy and good governance, ultimately winning the trust and confidence of the Ghanaian electorate.

Let us seize this opportunity to strengthen our campaign, energize our supporters, and ensure victory for the NDC in the 2024 elections.
