Offinso (Ash), Feb. 26, GNA - Mr. Ernest Yaw Obeng, an activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Ashanti Region, has expressed concern about protests and agitations by some party supporters for their favourites to be offered presidential appointments. He said that if such developments were not stopped, it would affect the unity of NDC and advised the party hierarchy to immediately hold discussions with aggrieved persons to resolve the impasse. Mr. Obeng was reacting to agitations by some NDC members in the region for appointment as Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive and Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister for their favourites from Offinso, through GNA in Offinso.

He said that appointments to such positions were based on merit, taking into consideration, the applicant's capabilities, competency, humour, integrity and initiative.

Mr. Obeng advised party supporters to exercise restraint since "Protests and agitations cannot resolve the issue". He said there were other equally important positions that could be offered to party functionaries and advised that President John Evans Atta Mills should be allowed to select or appoint competent persons to help him rule the country. 26 Feb. 09
