NDC Members

The Ashanti Regional Recognised Monitoring Team Members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have complained of neglect after they had been made to swear an oath with the dreaded ‘Antoa Nyamaa’ river deity that they would keep party information secret.

The peeved group alleged that the NDC regional executives also ordered some of their members—who are Muslims and Christians—to swear by the Holy Quran and the Bible respectively, so that they would refrain from making public critical duties that they performed for the party to win the 2012 polls.

The NDC Monitoring Team, which was made up of stoutly-built men, complained bitterly that two years after playing leading roles to help the party win the elections, the leadership of the NDC was yet to give to them what was due them.

They said what worried them most was that President Mahama, according to information reaching them, had released motorbikes and other incentives to be distributed to them for the vital services that they rendered for the party, but the items were being kept by the ‘greedy’ NDC executives.

In a release authored by Sulaiman Abdallah, secretary of the group, they said even though as Muslims and Christians it is not good to swear with the Holy Quran and the Bible, they did so due to their strong love for the NDC “and we worked to help our party retain power.”

He accused the regional executives, notably, Yaw Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman, of being greedy, stating that the current NDC leadership in the region was a bunch of greedy people whose major preoccupation was about how to amass wealth at the expense of the party and the government.

Abdallah alleged that “the current NDC regional executives were now fabulously rich,” saying that most of them owned mansions, hostels and flashy cars. Others, they claimed, were full-scale illegal mining operators who openly boasted about their wealth.

The NDC group bemoaned the fact that the party people that risked their lives to secure victory were wallowing in abject poverty.

They alleged that the NDC executives had secretly informed some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region that President Mahama and the NDC would lose the 2016 elections and so the MMDCEs should accumulate wealth and stop wasting their time to campaign for the party.

Abdallah and his group also accused the NDC leadership of adopting a ‘divide and rule’ tactics to manage the party, stating that the party in the Ashanti Region was sick and could crumble if President Mahama did not sit up and called the regional executives to order.

The NDC monitoring team members threatened to expose the regional executives who are selfish and have been plotting for the party’s defeat in the 2016 polls, stressing that “We shall not sit aloof for some few selfish people to send the party to opposition.”

They appealed to President Mahama to quickly order the executives to distribute all items due the monitoring team and also warn them to desist from plotting the party’s defeat in the upcoming elections.

They added that if the President refused to heed to their call, they would be compelled to take the law into their hands by physically attacking the greedy regional executives.
